Unlocking the Power of Kajabi Drip Settings: A Step-by-Step Guide
In the world of online courses, keeping your audience engaged and consistently coming back for more is key. One of the most effective ways to do this is by leveraging Kajabi’s Drip Settings. Drip content allows you to release your course material over a set period rather than giving immediate access to everything at once. This approach not only helps to keep your students engaged but also enhances retention and ensures they absorb the information at a steady pace.
In this comprehensive guide, I'll walk you through everything you need to know about configuring and optimizing your Kajabi Drip Settings. From understanding what drip content is to setting up your drip schedule and customizing notifications, I've got you covered.
Tip: When we talk about "drip" in the context of online courses, it refers to releasing your content on a set schedule. For example, if you're offering an eight-module course and want each module to release one week apart, that’s an example of drip content. This allows you to control the pace at which your students receive and engage with your material.

What is Drip Content?
Drip content allows you to release the lessons within a product module over time instead of giving the customer immediate access to all of your product lessons upfront. This feature is particularly useful if you want to maintain engagement by regularly providing new content. For instance, you can set modules in Kajabi to release any number of days after a customer gains access to the product, known as their start date.
- For example, if you set a module to release 7 days after your customer's start date, your customer will gain access to the product lessons in the dripped module 7 days after their start date. Let’s say your customer gains access to your product on a Sunday; if you've set the first module to drip 7 days after their start date, your customer will gain access to the dripped content the following Sunday.
This is a great tool if you want to have new content released to a customer each day, week, or month after they join. Keep in mind that dripped content must be dripped no less than 1 day. If you set your dripped content to 0, you will receive an error as it is equivalent to publishing the content immediately.
Configuring Your Drip Settings
To drip content:
- Open the Products tab from your Kajabi Dashboard.
- Open Courses or All Products.
- Select the Course Product you wish to edit or create a new one.
- Locate the Module within the Product you want to Drip.
- Click the Content Release Icon on the right of the Module you want to Drip.
- In the dropdown menu, select Drip.
- Choose how many days after purchase/grant that you want the Module to be available and hit save.
- Repeat for the following Modules depending on how often you want content to be released.
Tip: When setting up drip content, think about where most of your students are located. Choose a time zone and time of day that will work best for them to access the new material as soon as it becomes available. This helps to ensure that your content is released at a convenient time for your audience, boosting engagement.
Configuring Drip Notifications
When configuring your drip settings, you also have the ability to notify your customers when new content becomes available. By setting up the notification email, you ensure that your customers are always aware when they have new lessons to check out, keeping them engaged and on track.
To configure the drip settings:
- Open the Settings tab from your Dashboard.
- Click Drip Settings.
- Use the dropdown menus to select your desired time and time zone.
- Select the box indicating you would like to send a notification email to your customers when their content becomes available.
- Click Save to keep and apply your settings.
When content is released, your customers are notified with an automated email sent by your site. Kajabi allows you to customize this email to better fit your brand voice and messaging.
Tip: In addition to system-generated emails, consider sending out a marketing broadcast to your entire email list when new content is available. This serves as an extra reminder and can help maintain high levels of engagement with your course content.
Customizing the Member Drip Email Notification
Customizing the notification email that your customers receive when new content is released can help maintain your brand’s voice and keep your communication consistent.
To customize the member drip email notification:
- Open the Settings tab from your Dashboard.
- Then, open Email Templates.
- Select the Member Drip Notification template.
- Edit your customer drip notification email.
- Click Save to keep and apply your changes.
How Far in Advance Can You Drip a Course?
On Kajabi, you have the ability to drip content up to two years (more specifically, 731 days) in advance from your customer's access date. This flexibility allows you to plan and structure your course releases well in advance, making it easier to manage long-term programs or memberships.
Keep in mind that dripped content is released by the specified number of days from your customer's access date, whether that is the date purchased or your specified Access Date.
How to Give Access to Your Product on a Specific Date
Allowing members to have access to your content on a specific date is great for launches and preselling. Kajabi offers a feature called Begin access at a specific date, which allows you to customize when your members can start accessing the content they purchased.
This is particularly useful if you want all your students to begin the course at the same time, creating a synchronized learning experience.
To set up your begin access date:
- Open the Sales tab from your Dashboard.
- Click Offers.
- Select the Offer you want to edit or create a new one.
- Scroll to the Product Access Panel.
- Select the Begin access at a specific date option and choose a specific date on the calendar.
- Remember to click Save to keep your changes.
Note: Your customers are charged immediately upon purchase. Offer members will have access to published content on the date specified, and dripped categories will be available on each following day. If members purchase an offer after the Product Access date, they will have immediate access to all content released from the start of the Access Date to their purchase date.
How to Restrict Product Access to a Specific Amount of Days
Restricting product access after a specified number of days is another powerful feature within Kajabi. This allows you to automatically revoke access to the products in an offer after a set period, perfect for creating limited-time access, reselling courses, or hosting intermittent courses.
To restrict access:
- Open the Sales tab from the Dashboard.
- Click Offers.
- Select the Offer you wish to remove access to after a specified number of days.
- In the Offer Editor, locate the Product Access panel.
- Check the checkbox for Restrict access to a specific amount of days.
- In the Days field, enter the number of days a member can access the products included with the offer.
- Click Save to apply and keep your changes.
After the Product Access period has expired, the product will be removed from the member's library and they will no longer be able to access the product.
How to Drip Content by Product Access Date
Another great way to leverage Kajabi’s drip feature is by combining it with the Product Access Date setting. This is especially useful when you want to offer preorders for an upcoming product release, allowing you to sell the offer now while still working on the product before its official release date.
To set up a Drip date according to when Offer Access begins:
- Open the Sales tab from your Dashboard.
- Click Offers.
- Select the Offer you want to edit or create a new one.
- Scroll to the Product Access Panel.
- Select the Begin access at a specific date option and choose a specific date on the calendar.
- Remember to click Save to keep your changes.
To set the Product Post Drip date:
- Open the Products tab from your Dashboard.
- Click the Course you wish to edit or create a new one.
- Locate the Category or Sub-Category within the Product you want to Drip.
- Click the Content Release Icon on the right of the Category or Sub-Category you want to Drip.
- In the dropdown menu, select Drip.
- Choose how many days after purchase/grant that you want the Category or Sub-Category to be available, then click Save.
What Happens to Dripped Content if a Customer Cancels and Repurchases?
If a customer cancels their subscription and repurchases the same product, their start date will reset to the date of their repurchase. This means that their drip content will begin from their new start date.
If you wish to have your customers maintain their original start date if they repurchase, you will need to manually reset their start date in their contact profile.
How to Change a Customer's Start Date
Changing your customer’s start date can be necessary for a variety of reasons, such as granting access to all the content in a product that is set to drip for a specific customer.
To change the start date:
- Open the Contacts tab from your Dashboard.
- Select All Contacts.
- Search the customer’s name or email address.
- Select the customer you want to change to open their profile.
- Click Open Full Profile.
- Select the Purchases tab in the top menu.
- Click More Info next to the offer you want the change applied to.
- Click on the … icon to open more options.
- Select Edit access start date.
- Use the dropdown fields to update the effective start date.
- Click Save to keep and apply your changes.
Note: Changing the start date has no effect on the payment structure set up in the offer.
